Death of a daughter

Pulling away from me,

Turning in silence

A scream that burns.

A loss I can’t say

Leaves a stain you won’t see-

Twisting the blade cuts

Blood cold as ice.

An emptiness fills,

Rushes in like full tide,

But cannot drown out

My silent cry.

I’ve watched you leaving,

In sweat trailed waking dreams-

No words could settle

This restless heart.

Wanting to hold still,

Your hands so childlike yet-

And claw back the years

Quieten the hurt.

Death of a daughter

Leaving her hole in me

Turning in silence

But going nowhere.
