Beneath a molten blood-kissed sun
A palm’s width reaching far beyond
To mirage shimmer hope’s respite
Horizon’s passage ever on.
From rocky mount our barren eyes
Count shifting moments in the sand
And on oases pin our dreams
And wish for fruit from faded trees.
From deadened plains we set our path
An unknown journey to embrace
To follow footsteps windswept clean
And hope for things we could not dream.
A Dream of Sand

Deep and beautifully written!
Thank you so much, I’m pleased that you liked this. I appreciate you reading and taking time to comment.
No problem!
Hope does spring eternal even if the way is fraught and now always clear..we have to continue to ‘pin our dreams’
Very well expressed, Chris, and most pleasingly, not a waste phrase.
best to You
john
Thank you, John. You are, of course, quite correct, and it’s pleasing to hear that this came across. Much appreciated!
I love the way you have captured the sense of wandering and heat so well here, and I myself have moments when I feel far from life giving nourishment and that is when I long for an oasis, or at least the sense of one.
Thank you very much, Peter, for taking the time to leave your thoughts – I appreciate your time. I’m pleased that this piece resonated with you.
‘And on oases pin our dreams ‘ That’s a great line Chris. I really like the imagery here.
Thanks, Mark, I appreciate your response to this piece.
this is beautifully written….”and hope for things we could not dream”…
Thank you. I appreciate you taking time to leave your thoughts.
you’re welcome !
I’m visualising you in Egypt or some such place penning this, Chris, like surveying the territory and musing on what you see before you. Very realistic in description and I take from it hope in a barren landscape.
Your final comment just about captures the intention of this piece, Anne-Marie. As for Egypt substitute the Black Country – some would say fairly barren! Thank you!
Sometimes a wish just to get through a day, or , for , some; a lifetime! I like this Chris!
Absolutely! Pleased to hear that you liked this – I appreciate your comments.
Chris, you never disappoint with your writing, again another beautiful poem, and visually stunning! I love this line, “Count shifting moments in the sand” fantastic! This poem takes me in several directions, to a distant past, and also to the struggles of present day. I think obstacles have always been in our path, both past and present, wonderful job of conveying this message, and yes, “hope” seems to keep us moving forward. Please have a great weekend!
Warm wishes,
Pepperanne
I am both honoured and humbled by your most generous comments, Pepperanne. I am always delighted to know that my words have touched someone -this is the greatest reward writing can give – and perhaps even more so when their reading is as I intended. Thank you so much, this means a lot to me.
Very beautiful. Nicely layered with imagery 🙂
Thank you very much. I’m pleased that you liked this piece.
Beautifully written. Oblivion for most, remembrance for few for some generations.
Thank you. I like your interpretation of this piece.
Like the way you wrote it too.
