Swept down from the hills
Carried by the weight of expectation
Which hung like a millstone medallion
Snaking silent a serpent searching
Fulfillment’s promise
Goal-driven by the endless sea
Whose arms open and close
Like a feasting mouth
Ever hungry for the taste of the new
As ragged rocks mount themselves
An army standing firm
Against the raging course of time
The swells and currents which tire
Yet relentless rise and fall
And now with the safety of shadows
Cast and lost
A distant memory
Whose source slips hidden
Far from slight
The flatlands call out
Their plaintive cry
As turns straighten purpose-lost
And passion fades beneath
A lengthening Sun
Swallowed by the voracious fens
Which run towards the shore
To drive the sea away.
