Absence makes the heart

Grow forgetful

And cruel distance made

My heart grow cold

And deceitful words

Memories became

To cloud the visions

My eyes once held

As bleak barriers rose

Barbed-wire topped

A no-man’s land stained

With long gone days

Heat-haze remembered

Now receding

Too soon to feel the

Pull of the lost

As spite-fuelled absence

Smiles once more.
