If I were taller
If I were bigger,
If I were stronger
If I were wiser,
If I were braver
Wore my heart on my sleeve,
If I were driven
By glory or greed,
If I could charm
The birds from the trees,
Then the one that you love
It wouldn’t be me.
Lovely. And lovely again. Blessings for the New Year, Chris.
Thank you, Rachael. I hope that the New Year will be good to you.
I have to conclude
That indeed it is true
If you changed one atom of your being
Then you would no longer be you!
Thank you – and of course you are correct!
Ah but Chris – you DO charm the birds from the trees! A lovely poem!
And you make me smile! Thanks, Bruce.
If….you were anyone but you this poem would not have been written and that would be too sad to contemplate. Chris, you go from strength to strength as you wring the tears from me.
Thank you, Chris, that it such a lovely thing to say…and something to try to live up to. I am touched.
Oh, well done!
