This is the reason
That I came here
And suffered
At their hands.
The reason that
I stayed here
And followed
Scriptures road.
This is the passion
That flows in me
The blood and
Sweat and fear.
At times to see no
Other but you
My hope my
Life my fare.
And was I blinded
Eyes scarred to see
Eclipsed from truth
Meant for me?
Fell so far from grace
Another hand
Lost to me
In your eye.
This is the reason
I stayed for you
Impure
Love you knew.
The touch, your tear
The one I knew
A kiss of
Death from you.

Oh my, Chris. How I love this one, the tone, the choice of words, the subtle rhyme. Perfection. Hats off.
I am touched by your most generous response to this piece – and, of course, delighted that you enjoyed it so much. Thank you, your words are truly appreciated
You made my afternoon, Chris. Now when I tell you that we were without electricity, groping in the dark for hours, and that our washing machine broke down, you can see I needed sth beautiful. So, you did your part and thank YOU for that.
Nothing like losing what we take for granted for focussing the mind! Hope things get sorted soon.
Not until Mon, so I’ll be on sleep pills till then to stay composed.
😧
Well, I have waited a awhile to comment because this is a very deep heartfelt and raw set of verses which merits reading and re-reading. I am left with a sense of collapsing faith and whether life has any warmth without it. Very powerful words which bring meaning to many a context
I am very heartened by your comments on these poems, Peter. Indeed ‘Faith’ runs through this series (along with many other themes such as expectation, hope, isolation, the search for meaning…), so I am delighted that you have picked up on this. At times, I am aware, some of the references might be a little obscure, but hopefully the overall meaning is coming across. Three more to conclude the series.
Thanks for taking the time to read and, of course, for leaving your thoughts.
This one is 👏.
Thank you – I’m delighted that you approve.
