Paint the Day

I guess that I’d lost sight

Of all that I was

Looking for,

Drowned beneath the words that

Tumbled from my mouth.

Aim to please and try too hard

As all I say is

Left behind,

Shrouded by the clouds we are

Passing by the door.

Wanting always just to please

And hold a candle

To your face,

Burn a smile into the sky

But smiles always fade.

Close my eyes to paint the day

And hope that you’ll

Remember this,

Close your eyes I am not here

And never truly was.

Aim to please and try too hard

As all I say is

Left behind,

Shrouded by the clouds we are

Passing by the door.

Raw Earth Ink

Hi dear readers,

Raw Earth Ink is proud to announce the release of The Shadows of Blackout Island, a collection of dark fiction short stories.

Inside you’ll find seven horrifying tales which take place on Blackout Island as told by:

  • L.E. Aleman
  • Darren Diarmuid
  • Lauren Rylant
  • A.P. Christopher
  • -M. Taggart
  • M. Ennenbach and
  • Joann L. Berg

Rumors and speculation surround the possible inhabitants of Blackout Island, located just a few miles off the coast. Conspiracy theories abound while social media leaks surface about government experiments gone wrong. Certainly something or someone must live there, for haven’t we all seen the shaky home videos of the occasional wisp of smoke or recordings of eerie sounds carrying far across the water on a calm summer night? Something wicked has been let loose within its depths… And it is time for the truth to be revealed.

Where Junior Officer Jaime discovers the…

There was something that I wanted

To say to you

Before the feeling was drowned

By words

In the moments when the ghosts

Moved amongst us

Like silkworm strands

Their delicate beauty their strength

Eclipsing the hands as they swept away

The stories that we had been sold

Before the skies grew dark above

Our heads

In the days when the ghosts

Drifted from our sight

Like cataract clouds

Their flailing hands now skeletal

Lost behind the numbers that fell from our eyes

Leaving nothing but the dust.

There was something that I wanted

To say to you.

We hide our thoughts

And faces behind

The fantasies we build

In metal boxes,

The melted sand panes

Reflecting back the cold

Outside,

Holding in our voices

As if they belonged to us

And yet still they slip,

Unruly children,

Through our fingers

As they grasp too late

To ideas on the winter breeze

The chill that keeps us

Safe inside,

Open-mouthed we gasp the poison

That bleeds into our sanctum

Wishing that the journey was worth

The destination,

That our voices would join

With those we hold

In silent esteem,

That we could stay

Forever cocooned in glass and steel,

That all we would be

Would lead us home.

Raw Earth Ink

I’m happy to announce the release of my second poetry collection, four. Four is 185 pages of black-and-white photography and poetry by me. This book will only be available in paperback through me directly and on lulu as well as in e-book format on Kindle. The e-book releases December 1st and the paperback is available right now.

Wherever there is number, there is beauty.’ -Proclus, Greek Philosopher

Four. Four seasons. Four elements. Four phases of the moon. Four is the number of humanity in the physical realms and represents the now. It is a foundation in calmness and being grounded.

Within these pages you will discover fresh perspectives on love in its many forms. You will see the earth through the eyes of nature. You will feel the despair, the horror, of dark depression. You will feel the green tendrils of new love. Inside you may even…

Kicking around in the dust

Of another directionless day

Wishing on a long dead star

That revelation is real

We were stillborn in this place

Reached up through the lattice of weeds

Grew old and tired and died here

As if we had ever lived

And floating high above the clouds

We see at last what all this if for

The hamster running on his wheel

The time that nevers ends

The pull of procreation

That withers in the dying light

And leaves our winters colder

Than the ghosts that haunt our heads.

Not All Poppies Are Red

I wear a tear for those who died

Their scattered memories and bones,

A flower for the ones that lied

Who perch above the broken homes.

I tore a petal, tore a leaf

They fell in silence to the floor,

Each one a symbol of the grief

Which masks the cries they’ll hear no more.

And in the ground the wistful shoots

Will push for peace and love and grace,

Before they’re poisoned at the roots

By those who keep us in our place.

And one day all of this will end

And all the pain will go away

The days that in our hands we held

Will take their flight and set us free

And I will watch you rise once more

And hope that you will take my hand

These days we grew within our hearts

Will take us deep into our dreams

And one day all the clouds will clear

And all the things we ever saw

Will shower down before our eyes

These days we hold within our hands.
