I don’t usually do this, but I have just finished reading ‘The Vegetarian’ by the South Korean author Han Kang.
I’m not going to attempt a review because everybody’s interpretation of her writing will be intensely personal.
All I will say is that, in my opinion, this is a remarkable book and I hope that anyone who reads this finds time to read it.

I’ve not read it but I will certainly add it to my list on this recommendation. I’m a great lover of exploring other cultures through their art and writing so this is right up my street as they say . Hope you have a lovely weekend 🙂

I read The Vegetarian a few months ago and found it to be such a powerful and haunting read. It took me a couple of weeks to process how I felt about it, because it brought about such a huge range of emotional responses, including, awe, confusion, disgust, horror and pity. Most important was how strongly I was able to empathise with these beautifully complex characters.
Months later, I still find myself reflecting its stories, and the thin line which we humans walk between dreams and reality.
I understand how you feel – the story does evoke a wide range of responses. I found not only the story to be remarkable bit also the manner in which it was told. I don’t think that I have read a book before where the main character’s story is related through the lives of other’s in duch an original way. And yes the story is definitely one that stays with you. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
I haven’t read ‘The Vegetarian’ but I did read ‘Human Acts’ recently and it was so provocative and heart-wrenching. I loved it.
